THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF X-BALL

Part V: From Zero to Hiro

Japan, 1752 - Hiro stood laughing in the forest for several hours, until his throat became raspy and sore. He didn't hear a stream anywhere nearby, so started to walk, the X-Ball held tightly in his arms.

The ball seemed to emit a faint glow, which, combined with the sunlight, helped to guide him through the forest. At night, the sunlight didn't help him anymore, so he just used the X-Ball, which worked pretty well.

He was in a daze. Thoughts and plans filled his head, and although he couldn't make sense of them now, he knew that some day soon, he would know what they were for. Now, he knew only that this was much better than the lychee nuts the Emperor had demanded, and that he would show the X-Ball immeadiately to his majesty.

Hiro didn't know how long he traveled, although there were three cycles of daylight and darkness, but finally, he emerged from the forest. He recognized this area as surprisingly close to the Palace, and although he wanted a nice cold bath (hot water had yet to be invented), and to see his family, he knew his Emperor was waiting.

The fires were burning bright in the castle, and as Hiro walked by the surprised guards, he heard the sound of laughter coming from the dining hall. It was the laughter of a very jovial Jisaku Birobi.

Jisaku had thought Hiro would fail in his quest, and in a way, Hiro had. But in another, more specific way, he had surpassed the paltry requirements of his quest, and brought back something far better. Hiro knew that when he showed the Emperor the X-Ball, he would see what Hiro had seen.

And then, finally, Hiro would finally get what he wanted*...

*A bath.
