Marketing Slogan Causes Big Trouble for Nakamaji

"Special" Groups Very Upset

Monster Island, 03.22.01 - Fans were in an uproar this week over a major X-Ball marketing campaign recently launched, based on the slogan: "You've never heard of X-Ball? What are you, retarded?"

The slogan was featured on billboards and in bus stations around the world, as well as in one thirty second television commercial. The commercial was aired only once, during the recent Wednesday night edition of "Survivor."

In it, two youngs boys are playing baseball, a popular American sport, when one boy (let's call him Boy 1), turns to another boy (let's call him Jesse), and says, "This sport has got nuthin' on X-Ball." Jesse expresses confusion over exactly what X-Ball is, so Boy 1 snorts and says, "You've never heard of X-Ball? What are you, retarded?" In the next scene, Jesse and Boy 1 are watching an X-Ball game. They smile at each other, give a thumbs up, and the slogan appears in red lettering on a black background.

CBS was flooded with over twenty-eight million phone calls following the airing of the commercial. This is believed to be the entire weekly viewing audience of "Survivor," except for Emanuel Chaunders from Wisconsin, who, according to sources, was, "too wasted to dial the phone."

Hiro Nakamaji, President and C.E.O. of Nakamaji Corp., was quick to respond. "I don't understand," said a clearly confused Nakamaji. "We just thought that since over six billion people watch X-Ball each week, you'd have to be retarded not to know about it."

Despite repeatedly being told that the slogan was "offensive" and "in poor taste," Nakamaji has refused to pull the offending advertisement. It is now only shown on late night television and UPN, because, frankly, they need the money.
