Adrenaline - the very name evokes the fear response in those who hear it. They begin to sweat, smelling like the dread that permeates their weak, sad bodies. But what do they actually know about Adrenaline, the one-reptile fighting force that is one of the eight X-Ball wonders of the modern world? As it turns out, not much at all. But that's about to change.

Our story begins late at night in a top-secret underground laboratory in Nakamaji Corporate Headquarters. Earlier that day, a scientist by the name of Martin Dublecht had spawned his greatest creation yet - an reptile with twice the strength and four times the speed of an ordinary reptile! Plus, it would be covered in protective spikes! It would have been SO cool! Unbeknownst to Dr. Dublecht,a janitor named Percival decided to try his hand at genetic manipulation. Working late into the night, he carefully fiddled with the A's, T's, C's,& G's of young Adrenaline's genetic code.

But it was not to be - just before he could recombine the DNA, he knocked over his janitorial broom, which fell onto and opened the latch of a large cage containing glow-in-the-dark mice. The mice escaped and ran past a things-that-glow-in-the-dark-activated laser beam. The laser beam shot through the laboratory bouncing off a security mirror in the corner of the room and into the jar of a preserved brain. The brain came to life and knocked over its jar, spilling its formaldehyde onto the floor where a frayed electrical cord lay. The electricity traveled through the formaldehyde and into a batting cage ball machine, setting it off. A baseball shot out of the machine and toward Percival Quarrington who held up a notebook to shield himself. The baseball hit the notebook - and bounced straight into Adrenaline's petri dish, shattering it into amillion pieces!

Percival panicked - he quickly scooped what he could back into a new petri dish and cleaned like he had never cleaned before. When he left, the lab was spotless. In fact, Martin Dublecht didn't think anything amiss until Adrenaline was a full one month old. Martin looked at Adrenaline's squirmy stump of a body and cried his eyes out. He raised one fist to the heavens and shouted defiantly: "As God is my witness, Adrenaline shall play X-Ball! And he shall play it well! And he will do so wearing a cyborg suit of my own design!"

True to his word, Martin designed a robotic structure for Adrenaline's head to jack into. By controlling it with his thoughts, Adrenaline soon was able to move around freely and pick up objects. With a bit more practice, he learned to catch and throw. And within four short months, he had mastered the basic skills necessary for X-Ball players: running, jumping, catching, and clawing. At age 2, he became the youngest student ever at X-Ball University, a mighty triumph for the young Adrenaline, a reptile for whom life had always been a struggle. But his triumph wouldsoon turn to tragic revelation.

Adrenaline had always been extremely goal-oriented. At first, he wanted nothing more than to learn how to walk, move, and behave like everybody else. Then, he wanted to attend XBU, just to prove that he could. And once he got to XBU he had but two goals: (1) to be his XBU class valedictorian, and (2) to be the best Intramural X-Ball player the campus had ever seen. So he worked hard and played hard, getting ever closer to attaining his goals. But as winter turned to spring in his freshman year, he began to notice that his classmates no longer seemed as interested in either school or sports. Curious as to why, he tailed one of his classmates home. Peering through his window, he saw his monkey classmate doing strange and unmentionable things to a fellow female monkey. Confused, Adrenaline didn't understand anything. Classes, sure. X-Ball, definitely. But what was this? Why would those two monkeys want to do these strange and terrible things? Adrenaline knew then that, now and forever, he would never be like other students. His artificial body and brain impulse modulators wouldn't let him feel love or emotion. He realized that he would never experience joy or sadness, ecstasy or pain. He knew he would always be an outsider. But instead of letting those thoughts paralyze his ambition, he resolved that he would turn them into the secret of his success. By single-mindedly studying and playing X-Ball, Adrenaline graduated top of his class and landed a coveted spot on the Reptiles 2 Da Maxx Major League X-Ball Team.

Though he still cannot feel emotion, Adrenaline's inspiring story is still one of overcoming adversity in the face of staggering odds. Now, he almost has it all - fame, fortune, X-Ball, you name it. Though he occasionally wishes he were more like everyone else, he knows that being different put him where he is today. So while he can't enjoy anything at all, don't feel sorry for him. After all, he can't feel sorry for you. Adrenaline: half reptile. Half Machine. All action!
