Bif: Well, I can say without a doubt that this was one of the most exciting X-Ball games I've ever seen. | Tad: Oh, yeah, it was sooooo great. Bif: Are you being sarcastic? Tad: No, not at all. Bif: Because I thought it was a game full of everything that's great about this sport. The Monkeys displayed some of the sports heroism we see less and less these days. Tad: Uh-huh. The Monkeys are the best team ever. The have great team-work. Bif: Are you sure you're not being sarcastic? Because it sounds like you're being sarcastic. Tad: No, not at all. Bif: Stop that! You're mocking me. Tad: There's nothing to mock about you, Bif. Bif: Cut it out, now you're just being mean! Tad: Why, I'm not doing anything. No, not me. Bif: Stop it! Tad: Stop what! Bif: Nothing. Tad: Fine. Bif: Great. Excerpted from Game Commentary broadcast by X-Ball Tonite July 1, 2001, all rights reserved.
07.01.01 - Excitement returned to the X-Ball Arena this week, with one of the closest games of the season going to perrenial favorites Monkeys Who Play Sports.
| The re-energized X-Ball players burst onto the field with a mixture of sass and energy and charged the Danger Zone, activating the Danger, Rotsies with Robotic Heads! Yes, the R.O.T.C.'s who caused so much trouble the past few weeks, who had lost their heads due to an ingenious trap, were sort of resurrected to do battle! As the robots pulled their human bodies towards the X-Ball players, Pipsqueak grabbed the X-Ball and vaulted himself out of the Danger Zone, followed closely behind by Puck, Rage, and one of the B'Loons. Curiously absent was Kimberly... Pipsqueak passed the X-Ball to Redd, who threw it to D.O.T.C.O.M.M. The next pass was intercepted by Pain, who rushed the Snowmen's goal. To distract him, the Snowmen then launched into a spirited rendition of "Don't Know How I Feel (Keepin' it Real)" off their new album Snowlebrity. The routine complete with dance moves and timed explosions was a hit with both the crowd and Pain, who scored on the Snowmen while they were busy dancing. The second quarter began with the B'Loons propelling themselves towards the Danger Zone, and over the Robotic Rotsies. They all reached the now metal spiked X-Ball and exploded. After a short time out to clean up the B'Loons, Rage and Puck lept through the Danger Zone to be the first to gain possesion of the X-Ball. As Puck knocked the X-Ball off it's perch and towards the Flowers' Zone, Amanda swung into action. The Flowers formed a tight phalanx in front of Irma, who was guarding the goal, but it was too late. In a rare display of camradrie, the Monkeys and Reptiles all rushed the Flowers knocking them to the side of the goal and leaving Irma exposed and quaking in her roots. With a nod to each other, Puck tossed Rage the X-Ball. Rage grabbed the X-Ball in his mouth, and rolled towards the goal, gaining speed. He slammed into Irma, knocking her to the ground and spitting the X-Ball into the goal! The crowd roared and came to its feet as the confused and dispirited Flowers wandered off the field, vowing revenge. Once again, Rage and Puck rushed the Danger Zone, only to be faced by a group of Robotic Rotsies. Pain and Instinct tackled the ones in Rage's way, with Hoops and Links grabbing the rest. Rage and Puck arrived at the X-Ball at the same time, and both reached for it. The X-Ball, now in it's fourth evolution, promptly kicked them both in the face and started to run away. The X-Ball bolted towards the Monkeys' Zone only to be grabbed from behind by Starr, who flipped the X-Ball onto his back. Ignoring the feet which were kicking him right in the kidneys, Starr bolted straight towards Reptile territory. Standing in his way was Adrenaline, who threw himself on top of the Monkey, crushing him against the ground. Puck and Hoops jumped on top of the rambunctious reptile, trying to get him off of Starr, who was quickly turning purple, but they couldn't move the scaly mountain. Then, to the right of Adrenaline came a cry of, "Fore!" as Links smacked his five-iron right into Adrenaline's side, knocking the wind out of him! This gave Starr enough room to pull himself free and head back towards the goal. Instinct and Rage pounced on Links and Puck, stopping the Monkeys from helping their teammate. Starr ran on, and saw before him the massive Pain! Pain raised a fist to punch Starr, but was stopped by a cushy basketball, courtesy of Hoops! Starr ran on. Finally, he was reaching the Reptiles goal, guarded by team leader Vengeance. Like a steely fortress of cold-blooded solitude, Vengeance guarded the goal. There was no way Starr could get the X-Ball by him. It was all over, there was no way he could-- From his right, a brownish blur smacked into Vengeance's side: Gridiron had left the Monkeys goal and knocked Vengeance out of the way! Starr, still holding the X-Ball by it's legs, swung it over his head once, twice, three times, before letting it go. For the second time that night, the crowd erupted, cheering the Monkeys as the X-Ball fell right into the Reptiles' goal. The Monkeys had won their first game of the season! The next game will be played on August 5. |
